Frequently Asked Questions

Product and Materials

  • EcoLSD Flow Ropes and Flow Maces are handcrafted from sustainably sourced hemp. Hemp is durable, renewable, and offers natural tactile feedback that supports timing, coordination, and embodiment.

  • Hemp offers firmer feedback, better grip, and a grounded feel compared to slick synthetics. It doesn’t stretch, it softens with use, and it aligns with our focus on natural materials and sustainable design.

  • Hemp doesn’t stretch like nylon or polyester. It may soften and relax slightly with use, improving responsiveness without losing structure.

  • A hemp movement tool built for rotational strength, coordination, releases, and momentum-based practice.

  • Both are part of the same practice, but they emphasize different qualities.

The flow rope tends to be more continuous and timing-driven - supporting coordination, rhythm, and expressive movement.

The flow mace introduces more leverage, directional pull, and momentum - bringing in strength, control, and more grounded rotational movement.

They complement each other, offering different ways to explore the same underlying practice.

Sizing and Fit

  • Stand on the center of the rope with one foot. Pull both ends upward—ideal length lands between your belly button and sternum.
If unsure, we’ll recommend a length based on height and practice style.

  • Standard length is 8 ft. Custom options include 7 ft, 7.5 ft, 8.5 ft, and 9 ft, plus an “Email for custom length” option for anything not listed.

  • Rough starting points:

    • Under 5'4" → 7–7.5 ft

    • 5'4"–6’ → 8 ft (standard)

    • 6’+ → 8.5–9 ft
Personal preference and flow style matter—strength, wraps, and tempo can shift ideal length.

    • Ropes can also be knotted to shorten length.

  • There are two main decisions: weight (diameter) and overall length.

    16mm Flow Mace

Roughly 0.9 m (3 ft) long and ~2.35 lbs. This is the most balanced flow mace option - substantial enough to feel real momentum, while still staying approachable enough for regular practice. It is a good “one mace” option if you want a blend of flow, strength, control, and feedback.

    20mm Flow Mace - Core

    About 0.75 m (2.5 ft) long and ~3 lbs.
This is the more compact heavy option. It works well for most users because the leverage stays manageable.
Best for one-handed power rotations, releases, and tighter movement patterns.

    20mm Flow Mace - Reach

    About 1.2 m (4 ft) long and ~4.2 lbs.
This is the more leveraged heavy option. It’s well-suited for two-handed flow and larger movement patterns, while still being usable one-handed.

The standard build works well for users 5’6” and up.
    – Shorter users can add a knot to reduce length or choose a custom build.

Customization

  • Yes — customization applies to length only. Materials and diameters are not customizable.

  • Select a listed length in the product dropdown, or choose “Email for custom length” and we’ll take it from there.

  • No. Custom lengths are final and not eligible for exchange. See Exchanges for policy details.

  • Yes. A standard build is offered for the 16mm flow mace. The 20mm Core and Reach also offer standard builds, but custom length is an option for the Reach.

  • No. Custom lengths are final and not eligible for exchange.

Break-In and Care

  • Yes. New hemp may feel firmer or more textured at first. It softens with regular practice and becomes more responsive over time. See the “Break-In Period” section of the Care Guide for more details.

  • Check out the Care Guidefor best practices or theWarranty & Refresh page for service.

  • A maintenance service for natural fiber ropes—including cleaning, conditioning, tightening, and re-whipping to extend product life. See more on the Warranty and Refresh page.

  • New hemp rope may develop a slightly “fuzzy” or matte appearance during early use. This is normal and comes from loose outer fibers shedding as the rope settles, compresses, and aligns through movement.

With regular practice, these excess fibers naturally work their way out, leaving behind a smoother, more unified surface. The rope will soften, become more flexible, and often darken slightly in color as it breaks in.

Light brushing after use, once the rope is dry, can help remove loose fibers during this early phase. “Fuzziness” is not damage — it’s part of the rope becoming more refined through use.

Exchanges and Store Credit

  • Yes—standard 8 ft ropes and standard flow maces may be exchanged within 30 days if in new or like-new condition. Custom-length ropes are not eligible for exchange. See more on the Customization and Exchanges page.

Ordering, Shipping & Packaging

  • Yes. We ship worldwide. Options and rates are shown at checkout.

  • Processing times are generally ~1 week, as each rope is made to order. Custom lengths could take closer to 2 weeks. Delivery timelines depend on destination and carrier.

  • We prioritize natural, minimal, and low-impact packaging. Avoiding plastics in favor of compostable or recyclable materials, wherever possible.

Brand & Philosophy

  • It’s our approach to movement: listening instead of forcing, adapting instead of imposing, and practicing with tools, materials, and environment.

  • River (12 mm) → lighter, faster, responsive, finesse
Summit (16 mm) → heavier, slower, grounded, power

Both support rotational flow with different emphasis.

  • The main difference is weight, leverage, and how they move.

    - 16mm is the more accessible option. Enough momentum to feel substantial, with less intensity than the 20mm versions.
    - 20mm Core is more compact and grounded - best for controlled strength and one-handed work
    - 20mm Reach adds length and leverage - best for two-handed flow and larger movement patterns

If you’re unsure, reach out. Or start with the 16mm option.

EcoLSD Guarantee

  • The EcoLSD Guarantee is our promise that your tool should be right, usable, and supported for the long term.

If something is wrong due to materials, craftsmanship, construction, or finishing, we’ll repair or replace it. If it is not the right fit, eligible standard tools may be returned or exchanged within 30 days.
